Behind our images

Every human being is an enigma. After my grandmother Badé committed suicide, I inherited her television and a video recorder with a few VHS tapes labelled ‘Memories’. As a teenager, I thought I would find answers there, but the faded images remained silent. Ten years later, I discovered that she had left us a clue, an autobiographical account in which she tells her story. With my wife pregnant, I decided to set out to meet our scattered family. In search of the truth, I explored the mystery of Badé by putting her testimony into perspective with the family films shot by my grandmother, the memories of her loved ones, and the photos on the back of which she wrote comments. What is on the back of our images?
