“I met Behruz in Athens. We lived in the same neighbourhood and frequented the same places. We were both foreigners in this city on the edge of Europe. But our experiences of being foreigners—mine by choice, his in exile—were different, and affected every aspect of our lives: our ability to travel, study, work, and plan for the future. These differences contributed to the violent breakup of our relationship.
What does our story say about the borders of Europe?
Years later, I look back on this story through my archives from that time, and I return to Athens to find traces of this lost love. My memories are woven together with new encounters. Camille and Jabbar, Reza and Bijan live in the same neighbourhood and talk to me about love and loss, exile and waiting.
Between tenderness and power relations, the daily lives of these couples paint a portrait of a neighbourhood and the borders of a deadly Europe.
